The leak affected 64 employees, the vast majority of whom were women. Medical facilities are currently managing the fallout, with 15 workers under observation in government hospitals, while 47 others remain in private medical care, including 23 patients in intensive care units.
Former BJP leader K. Annamalai demanded that the state government pursue stringent legal action against those responsible for the safety violations. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan also issued a statement offering condolences to the families of the deceased and expressing support for the recovery of the survivors.
In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for each of the victims' families. The government has appointed a three-member committee—composed of representatives from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, and the Directorate of Public Health—to determine the cause of the disaster. This panel is required to deliver an interim report within 24 hours and a final assessment within three days.
