Siddaramaiah Backs BK Hariprasad as Congress Eyes 2028 Karnataka Polls

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah signaled a unified front at the KPCC leadership transition, backing new president BK Hariprasad to sharpen the party’s ideological edge against the BJP. The move marks a strategic pivot as the Congress prepares to defend its record and mobilize for the 2028 assembly elections.

Siddaramaiah praised Hariprasad’s five-decade trajectory, tracing his path from a grassroots student activist to a veteran strategist. He credited the outgoing president, DK Shivakumar, for the 2023 electoral success while emphasizing that the new leadership must now focus on grounding the party in constitutional values. The former CM highlighted the successful delivery of five guarantee schemes, which cost the state treasury over Rs 1.4 lakh crore, as proof that the administration could overcome political skepticism.

Looking toward the next election cycle, Siddaramaiah framed the upcoming political battle as a clash between pluralism and authoritarianism. He urged party workers to conduct intensive outreach at the booth and district levels to promote the ideals of the Constitution. By explicitly calling for a resistance against the BJP’s push for 'one nation, one election,' he underscored that the party intends to center its 2028 campaign on protecting the nation’s foundational principles. He expressed full confidence in the party’s ability to retain power in Karnataka and eventually return to governance at the Centre with Rahul Gandhi at the helm.
