The "Immediate Combat Readiness Exercise" will run through Friday, emphasizing field-level agility and the integration of command and control systems. Military officials confirmed the deployment will utilize actual equipment across live terrain to sharpen logistical sustainment and battlefield preparation. This modernization effort reflects Taipei’s evolving strategy to counter scenarios where routine Chinese military operations near the island could suddenly escalate into a direct offensive.
This announcement follows the detection of 21 Chinese aircraft, including J-16 fighters and Y-20 refueling tankers, operating near the island. Nineteen of these planes breached the southwestern air defense identification zone before conducting long-range training in the Western Pacific. While these drills are part of an annual training cycle, they underscore a broader regional push for deterrence. Taiwan recently tested its U.S.-made HIMARS rocket systems, and the military is currently finalizing preparations for the larger Han Kuang war games scheduled for August.
