The officers were dispatched to check on Marie Marseille after a neighbor reported hearing persistent shouting. Upon arrival, they discovered Marseille celebrating a New York Knicks victory with her two-year-old dog, Jameson. Footage shows the officers initially asking Marseille to secure the animal, who was wearing a team jersey. Although she briefly pulled the dog back and closed the door, the interaction turned volatile when she reopened it to speak with the police.
As the dog re-emerged, he barked and charged toward an officer, who retreated into the lobby before discharging his service weapon. The animal, described by police as a 106-pound mix, died at the scene. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell later labeled the encounter “incredibly tragic,” confirming that the department has launched a multilevel investigation into the use of force. The loss of the pet has drawn significant public attention, prompting the Chief to acknowledge that the incident remains under a thorough internal review.
