Nitin Nabin Links Yoga to Anti-Drug Campaign in Punjab

Amidst the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations at Jalandhar’s Lovely Professional University, BJP National President Nitin Nabin transformed a routine fitness display into a sharp political appeal, urging Punjab to reject the escalating grip of drug addiction that he described as a curse on local households.

Nabin leveraged the event to frame yoga not just as physical exercise, but as a mechanism for societal renewal. By calling for a collective resolve to eliminate substance abuse, he positioned the ancient practice as a foundation for strengthening both individual health and community integrity. He emphasized that protecting the nation's roots requires a firm stance against anything that weakens the body and mind.

While Nabin campaigned in Punjab, senior parliamentary figures marked the day in Delhi. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh participated in capital-wide events, with Birla characterizing yoga as an invaluable, eternal gift from India’s tradition of knowledge. The 2026 observance, themed "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," focuses on the role of the practice in maintaining independence and activity across all stages of life. Since the United Nations General Assembly established the day in 2014, the annual June 21 event has grown into a global platform for promoting a holistic lifestyle that balances body, mind, and soul.
