Zelenskiy claims long-range drone strike on Siberian oil refinery

More than 2,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, a Russian oil refinery in the Tyumen region has become the latest target in Kyiv’s long-range drone campaign. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed the strike on Saturday, framing the operation as a direct response to ongoing Russian attacks against his country.

The Ukrainian military has spent months targeting Russia's energy infrastructure to disrupt the financial mechanisms supporting the war effort. Zelenskiy announced that newly modernized drones capable of traveling up to 3,000 kilometers have been successfully deployed in these operations, marking a significant expansion in reach for Kyiv’s aerial capabilities.

Russian officials offered a conflicting account of the incident. Alexander Moor, the governor of the Tyumen region, stated that local air defenses intercepted the incoming drones. According to Moor, preliminary reports indicated no damage to the facility, which processes roughly 6 million tons of crude oil annually, though staff were evacuated as a precaution.
