YSRCP protests Andhra Pradesh beach alcohol policy

Former MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar led a demonstration in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, fiercely challenging the state government’s directive to allow beer and wine sales at local beaches. The opposition YSRCP party argues the policy compromises public safety and cultural integrity, vowing to sustain pressure until the administration reverses course.

The government’s decision, modeled after Goa’s tourism framework, aims to boost state revenue and align Visakhapatnam with global tourism standards. Officials maintain that permitting designated beach shacks to serve alcohol will enhance the visitor experience and stimulate the hospitality sector.

During the protest, Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar directed harsh criticism at Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, accusing the administration of prioritizing commercial gain over the social fabric of the state. He characterized the move as a departure from the legacy of previous administrations, labeling the policy an assault on the peace and harmony of the region. The YSRCP remains steadfast in its opposition, framing the push for beach-side alcohol sales as a dangerous shift that threatens the sanctity of public recreational spaces.
