The 610-meter-long pool, recently drained and repainted in a shade dubbed "American flag blue" by Donald Trump, has quickly devolved into a swampy mess. AFP reporters observed crews pumping out debris as the paint peels from the basin, leaving patchy surfaces beneath the murky water. The degradation has become a focal point for public scrutiny, with visitors even tracing the name "TRUMP" into the algae-covered floor.
Responding to the backlash on Truth Social, the former president characterized the state of the pool as an act of vandalism. He claimed that 75% of the algae has already been cleared and promised that repairs will conclude early next week. Law enforcement is currently investigating the damage, though the scope of the project—which includes significant structural alterations to the National Mall landmark—continues to draw criticism regarding its preservation of the historic site where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his 1963 speech.
