Hyderabad Joins Global Yoga Day Momentum

Thousands gathered at Hyderabad’s Parade Grounds on Saturday, marking a sustained local commitment to the International Day of Yoga. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy emphasized that the city’s deep-rooted enthusiasm reflects a broader, worldwide acceptance of the wellness initiative since its 2014 inception under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The event drew a diverse assembly of participants, including Telangana’s Governor, former Vice President of India, regional lawmakers, and 45 international delegates. For seven years, the city has maintained a 24-hour countdown leading up to the June 21 observance, a practice that has evolved into a staple of the local calendar.

As the world prepares for the 12th annual celebration, the focus shifts toward the official 2026 theme: Yoga for Healthy Ageing. This initiative aims to highlight how regular practice fosters physical independence and mental engagement across all generations. With countdown events intensifying nationwide, the movement continues to transition from a symbolic gesture into a structured global wellness standard.
