Ashwini Vaishnaw Claims Growing Public Backlash Against TMC in Bengal

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw claims the Trinamool Congress faces deep-seated public hostility in West Bengal, suggesting that local resentment has reached a breaking point. His remarks follow a wave of internal instability within the party, as twenty Lok Sabha MPs recently declared their intent to merge with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India.

Addressing allegations from TMC MP Saugata Roy, who accused the BJP of using coercion and bribery to peel away opposition leaders, Vaishnaw countered by questioning the ability of TMC representatives to even visit their own constituencies. He characterized the current political climate as a direct response from citizens who have been frustrated by the party’s long-standing reliance on local syndicates.

Beyond the regional friction in Bengal, the Minister dismissed the broader opposition coalition, asserting that the INDIA bloc is disintegrating under the weight of its own internal contradictions. While the TMC leadership maintains that the AITC remains an indivisible entity and has formally challenged the legality of any breakaway faction, the political standoff continues to intensify. Vaishnaw defended the right of individual lawmakers to chart their own course, framing the recent defections as a natural exercise of democratic agency rather than a product of external pressure.
