Defense Minister Israel Katz signaled a long-term presence in the region, declaring that Israeli forces would remain in southern Lebanon from the Mediterranean coast to the Beaufort heights. Katz stated that the 200,000 residents of the area would not be permitted to return to their homes, as the military continues to raze villages to solidify a security zone. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir further inflamed tensions by calling for aggressive retaliation, stating that for every Israeli loss, the Lebanese population must suffer a thousandfold.
Lebanon’s health ministry reported that strikes hit 11 towns overnight, complicating rescue efforts as civilians flee the districts of Tyre and Bint Jbeil. While Israel maintains that its actions target Hezbollah infrastructure in response to ceasefire violations, the group denies these claims, accusing Israel of systematic destruction and civilian targeting. Amidst the violence, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has instructed his delegation to continue pursuing a comprehensive peace at upcoming talks in Washington, despite the defiance shown by Israeli leadership regarding the U.S.-brokered pact.
