Leander Paes joins Kolkata’s pre-Yoga Day marathon

Tennis legend Leander Paes stepped onto the streets of Kolkata on Friday, joining West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari in the 'Daud Se Dhyan' marathon. The event served as a high-energy curtain-raiser for International Yoga Day, drawing residents and local officials together to promote physical fitness and community wellness.

Paes expressed admiration for Adhikari’s active involvement, noting that the political leader completed the entire route alongside the public. The former tennis star emphasized that integrating running, meditation, and yoga into daily life remains critical for societal health. The marathon, held just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the city for official International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21, highlights a broader state-wide push toward wellness initiatives.

Trinamool Congress councillor Ashim Basu also participated in the run, framing the event as a collaborative effort for the welfare of the city. The marathon follows Adhikari’s recent appearance at the 'Swachhata Se Swagat' cleanliness drive at Mayor Ghat, signaling a busy week of public engagements across Kolkata. Organizers intend for these lead-up programs to cement mindfulness and regular exercise as core habits for the local population.
