The survey underscores a stark contrast in political capital. Obama maintains broad appeal across the aisle, drawing positive ratings from roughly one in five Republicans and doubling the support levels of Trump or Biden among independent voters. While his second term saw polarized approval, his image has solidified into a consistent positive since his departure from Washington.
In comparison, the current political landscape remains fractured. Donald Trump currently holds a 34% favorability rating, while Joe Biden sits at 30%, marking a sharp decline from the 59% favorability he enjoyed at the start of his term. The poll reveals that Biden’s recent numbers reflect not just opposition, but a growing segment of the public that remains indifferent or holds no firm opinion of his tenure.
Other former commanders-in-chief face a more complicated reception. George W. Bush continues a gradual recovery from his own low exit ratings, now maintaining a 42% favorable view, while Bill Clinton remains a divisive figure with a near-even split in public sentiment. When asked to identify the president they admire most, 30% of Americans chose Obama, placing him well ahead of Trump at 19% and historical icons like Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan.
