Congress leader Rajesh Thakur publicly voiced his frustration after the party’s candidate secured only 21 of the 26 expected votes, with one ballot declared invalid. The coalition math had counted on 16 votes from Congress, four from the JMM, four from the RJD, and two from the CPI(ML)L. Thakur stated that the discrepancy points directly to a lack of support from regional allies, characterizing the outcome as a betrayal of the trust necessary for a functional alliance.
The election resulted in a clear victory for NDA-backed independent candidate Parimal Nathwani and JMM’s Baidyanath Ram, who secured the two available Upper House seats. While Nathwani focused his post-victory comments on rural development initiatives for the state, the opposition remains in damage control. Thakur confirmed that the party must now undergo a serious internal review to determine how their projected support evaporated during the voting process.
