Rosatom Chief Blames Ukraine for Fatal Drone Strike at Zaporizhzhia

A drone strike on the city of Enerhodar has resulted in the death of a Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant employee, according to Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev. The incident, which occurred Wednesday, further intensifies the volatile standoff surrounding Europe’s largest nuclear facility, now under Russian military control since 2022.

Likhachev reported that the strike targeted a repair workshop in the city where many plant staff reside. A second employee remains in critical condition following the attack. The Rosatom chief emphasized that the casualties involve core technical personnel essential to maintaining the safety and operational integrity of the power station's equipment.

Ukrainian officials have not commented on the accusation, and independent verification of the strike remains unavailable. This event marks the second time this year that Russian authorities have attributed the death of a plant worker to Ukrainian drone activity, following a similar report in April. Both sides continue to trade blame over military maneuvers near the site, heightening international concerns regarding nuclear security in the conflict zone.
