Tormod Endresen, Norway's ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva, highlighted the precarious situation for the 500,000 residents trapped in the path of the paramilitary group. Among those at risk are more than 100,000 internally displaced people who have sought refuge in the central Sudanese hub. The diplomatic coalition expressed grave concern that an escalation of military operations will trigger large-scale atrocities, further destabilizing a region already reeling from prolonged conflict.
