Karnataka Legislative Council Elections Record 100 Percent Turnout

All 222 eligible legislators cast their ballots in Thursday’s biennial Karnataka Legislative Council elections, marking a full turnout for the seven vacant seats. While the voting process concluded at the Vidhana Soudha under strict procedural oversight, the day was punctuated by internal friction over alleged voting irregularities and partisan maneuvers.

Congress MLA AS Ponnanna confirmed the complete participation of the electorate, noting that the voting process finished before the 4 p.m. deadline. Following the closure of the polls, officials moved to seal the ballot boxes in preparation for the counting process, which was slated to begin at 5 p.m. under Election Commission authorization.

Despite the orderly conclusion of polling, tensions surfaced regarding the conduct of legislators inside the voting hall. BJP leader N Ravi Kumar challenged the opposition's objections, specifically citing a letter from BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal that declared his intent to vote for his party. Kumar dismissed the Congress agents' questioning as improper, asserting that the role of an agent is restricted to verifying voter lists rather than scrutinizing voting choices.

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar dismissed concerns regarding potential cross-voting, emphasizing the confidential nature of the secret ballot. Meanwhile, the Congress party maintains a firm stance on its electoral trajectory. Senior leaders, including Santosh Lad and Satish Jarkiholi, expressed confidence that their five candidates would secure victory comfortably, citing the party's sufficient numbers within the assembly.
