Meenakshi Natarajan accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of attempting to manipulate the election despite lacking the necessary legislative numbers. With the Congress holding 58 MLAs against the BJP's 48, she questioned how the ruling party intended to secure victory for its additional candidate. Natarajan further alleged that the Returning Officer dismissed Congress submissions without due consideration, labeling the entire ordeal a political conspiracy.
The protest also addressed accusations regarding a legal notice from Hyderabad, which Natarajan dismissed as a smear campaign. She clarified that the incident predates her tenure in Telangana and maintained that she has consistently supported the victim in that case. Digvijaya Singh framed the demonstration as the opening move in a nationwide campaign to highlight what he described as the murder of democracy. The party remains focused on challenging the BJP’s influence, specifically citing the nomination of corporate-backed candidates as evidence of a broader struggle over constitutional values.
