Kremlin blames European leaders for influencing Trump on Ukraine

European leaders likely fed Donald Trump harmful misinformation regarding the conflict in Ukraine during the recent G7 summit, according to Yuri Ushakov, a top foreign policy aide to the Kremlin. Despite these pressures, Moscow maintains that the U.S. president remains a strong, independent actor capable of holding his own views.

Ushakov dismissed claims from Kyiv and its European allies that Ukraine’s recent drone incursions deep into Russian territory have fundamentally shifted battlefield momentum, labeling such assertions as categorically untrue. The Kremlin aide suggested that Trump was misled by Western counterparts during the summit, even as those same leaders expressed cautious optimism regarding potential peace negotiations following Trump’s meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

While the diplomatic maneuvering continues, Moscow is still awaiting a scheduled visit from Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. No firm date has been established for these discussions, and the Kremlin appears to be adopting a wait-and-see approach to determine how these external influences might shape the incoming administration's actual policy toward the ongoing war.
