Congress Leaders in Uttarakhand Must Choose Between Office and Ballot

District and Metropolitan Congress Presidents in Uttarakhand harboring ambitions for the upcoming Assembly elections must resign from their organizational roles before launching campaigns. This directive from AICC General Secretary Kumari Selja aims to ensure undivided attention toward the party’s grassroots strength ahead of the 2027 polls.

During a strategic meeting at Dehradun’s Bijapur State Guest House, Selja emphasized that the mandate of a party president transcends individual electoral aspirations. She argued that these leaders hold a broader responsibility to fortify the organization across all Assembly segments within their jurisdictions, rather than focusing solely on their own constituencies.

The directive followed a performance review of the party’s organizational restructuring efforts over the last six months. Accompanied by senior leader Vamshi Reddy and election committee coordinator Chilla Vamshi Chandra Reddy, Selja scrutinized three-month roadmaps submitted by local office-bearers. Beyond the resignation requirement, she tasked leadership with intensifying agitation against BJP policies and ensuring booth-level ideological penetration. With the current Assembly term expiring in March 2027, Selja also issued a stern warning to the party's various frontal and affiliated units, demanding more proactive engagement to avoid further organizational stagnation.
