Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara will participate in today’s Legislative Council elections at 1 PM, according to Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The voting process for seven Legislative Council seats commenced at 9 AM and is scheduled to conclude by 4 PM. Authorities have secured the state secretariat with CCTV surveillance and police deployment to oversee the secret ballot conducted by MLAs. This election cycle follows the impending retirement of seven members on June 30, including representatives from both the Congress and BJP.

Congress currently holds 37 seats in the 75-member Upper House, with the BJP trailing at 29. By securing these additional positions, the ruling party intends to strengthen its legislative majority. The outgoing cohort includes prominent figures such as B.K. Hariprasad and M.T.B. Nagaraju. Election officials are expected to release the final results later this evening once the polls close.
