NDA confident of securing Rajya Sabha seat in Jharkhand

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren declared on Thursday that independent candidate Parimal Nathwani, backed by the NDA, is poised for a decisive victory in the state's Rajya Sabha elections. As voting commenced at the Legislative Assembly, BJP leadership voiced strong expectations of securing the necessary majority.

The election for two Rajya Sabha seats has intensified with the NDA throwing its weight behind Nathwani. BJP members remain bullish on the outcome, with MLA CP Singh asserting that the coalition is set to surpass the 30-vote threshold. State Vice President Bhanu Pratap Shahi suggested that support for Nathwani extends beyond traditional party lines, claiming that local legislators are prepared to vote according to their conscience to ensure his victory.

Nathwani himself voiced optimism regarding the cross-party support for his candidacy, stating he has received backing from a broad spectrum of representatives. The contest remains tightly packed, as the ruling JMM and Congress coalition have fielded their own candidates, Baidyanath Ram and Pranab Jha, respectively. With polling scheduled to conclude at 4 pm and results expected by evening, the outcome will determine whether the opposition’s push can overcome the ruling alliance’s seat-sharing pact.
