The security controversy erupted as Banerjee shifted her focus to a protest march in Kolkata’s Dharmatala district. The demonstration was organized to contest the recent forced eviction of hawkers, a process that saw makeshift shops on Jadavpur Station Road razed by bulldozers on June 7. Party officials claim the administration’s actions are driven by political greed, asserting that the dignity and livelihoods of local vendors remain under direct threat from state authorities.
During the march, the atmosphere grew tense as police deployed lathi-charges against students, activists, and demonstrators gathered to oppose the demolition efforts. Moitra utilized social media to highlight what she describes as a partisan imbalance in state-funded protection, specifically citing the extensive security apparatus assigned to the RSS leadership. The TMC leadership maintains that these maneuvers are part of a wider strategy to destabilize the three-time Chief Minister, promising to continue their public resistance against what they characterize as the ruthless displacement of Bengal’s workers.
