Agnimitra Paul labels egg-throwing at TMC leaders as public 'deemocracy'

Calling the recent string of egg-throwing incidents against Trinamool Congress figures a display of 'deemocracy,' BJP leader Agnimitra Paul suggested the protests represent long-simmering public fury. She argued that while the BJP does not endorse lawlessness, the hostility is a direct consequence of systemic corruption and unchecked government misgovernance.

The political tension reached a flashpoint on June 14 when veteran TMC leader Kunal Ghosh was targeted outside Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence. Despite the location being under high-stakes Z-category security, an assailant managed to throw an egg at Ghosh while he addressed the media. Two arrests followed on June 16, yet the incident sparked deeper controversy when Ghosh alleged that one of the suspects had previously served as an independent witness for the Crime Investigation Department during a recent raid at the same residence.

Ghosh questioned the security lapse, suggesting the attacker may have used the earlier raid to conduct a reconnaissance of the area. The situation has drawn sharp criticism from within the TMC as well. Suspended party leader Riju Dutta condemned the act, characterizing it not just as a physical assault, but as a psychological strike against the party’s leadership. Meanwhile, Paul maintains that the current atmosphere is a natural outcome of the administration's failure to address the grievances of ordinary citizens, asserting that the public is finally reacting to years of perceived persecution.
