Trump Pledges US Support for India in Event of Attack

Despite the absence of a formal mutual defence treaty between Washington and New Delhi, Donald Trump has signaled a commitment to intervene should India face external aggression. The former president emphasized that the strength of the current relationship transcends the need for signed contractual obligations in moments of crisis.

The remarks came during an interview with NDTV, where Trump characterized the bilateral defence ties as robust and reliable. While acknowledging that the two nations lack a binding military pact, he maintained that the United States would act as a guarantor of security if India were targeted.

Trump appended a caveat to his assurance, noting that the pledge was contingent on his own leadership. He suggested that future support might depend on who holds the executive office, framing the security promise as a personal commitment rather than an institutional policy.
