The government downgraded the couple’s protection in early June 2026, replacing their high-tier detail with a limited contingent of Bihar Special Armed Police. In a defiant response, the family voluntarily returned the remaining guards, prompting RJD party workers to establish their own informal security perimeter outside the residence at 10, Circular Road. Tejashwi Yadav has also renounced his government protection, declaring he will move without security.
The friction extends beyond personnel protection. The state has issued a 15-day ultimatum for Rabri Devi to vacate the 10, Circular Road bungalow, which has been reallocated to Bihar Minister Nand Kishore Ram. While officials contend that Rabri Devi was previously provided alternative housing in her capacity as the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, she has refused to comply. Party leaders describe the security withdrawal and eviction notice as a deliberate effort by the state government to humiliate the family.
