Sharren Haskel: Israel Will Keep Targeting Hezbollah Despite Diplomacy

“If the terrorist organisation plans to attack during those negotiations, of course we would respond,” said Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel in an exclusive interview with NDTV. She insisted that military operations against Hezbollah remain a non-negotiable obligation for the security of Israeli citizens, regardless of ongoing international mediation efforts.

Haskel dismissed the significance of upcoming discussions between American and Iranian officials in Geneva, clarifying that the proposed framework focuses on Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missile capabilities, and uranium enrichment rather than a regional peace deal. She cited recent provocations, noting that Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks against Israel this week alone. According to the minister, the path to stability is straightforward: Hezbollah must disarm, adhere to the directives of the Lebanese government, and cease all hostilities.

Drawing parallels to India’s security concerns, Haskel questioned the criticism directed at Israel’s defensive posture. She argued that any sovereign nation, including India, would naturally retaliate if its cities or homes faced similar threats. Furthermore, she urged New Delhi to monitor Iran’s missile development closely, warning that Tehran’s ballistic technology possesses the range to reach London, Mumbai, and New Delhi. She maintained that Israel did not initiate the current conflict and continues to act only in response to aggression from Hezbollah and its Iranian backers.
