A one-year-old boy is dead and an adult passenger remains hospitalized after a police officer opened fire on a vehicle in Senatobia, Mississippi, on Sunday. The shooting involved a vehicle carrying the child, his mother, and a friend. According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, officers attempted to stop the car as it exited the Walmart parking lot. Authorities claim the driver steered toward an officer, nearly striking them, which prompted the officer to discharge their weapon. The vehicle fled the scene, with the occupants eventually reaching a hospital where the child, Kohen Wiley, was pronounced dead.

Carlos Haynes, the boy's grandfather, expressed his grief over the loss, describing Kohen as a happy child whose life was cut short. While the mother escaped physical harm, her companion sustained serious injuries. The Senatobia Police Department and the Tate County Sheriff's Office were both present during the event, though neither has provided detailed comment on the specific tactical decisions leading to the shots fired. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently reviewing the circumstances, while Walmart officials confirmed they are cooperating with the ongoing inquiry.
