The atmosphere in Times Square shifted from triumph to turmoil as thousands gathered to mark the team's first title since 1973. Amid the commotion, at least seven gunshots rang out, prompting police to rush the wounded teen to a hospital by patrol car when ambulances failed to navigate the packed streets. Beyond the shooting, four people suffered stab wounds, and ten police officers reported injuries, including one struck by a glass bottle and another assaulted during the unrest.
Property damage was extensive across the city. Revelers shattered police vehicle windshields, climbed traffic lights, and set fire to five police cars and five school buses—vehicles originally designated to shuttle fans for upcoming World Cup matches. NYPD officers managed to intercept one armed individual in the crowd, recovering a loaded weapon from his waistband. Following the night of disorder, authorities confirmed 63 arrests on charges ranging from disorderly conduct to weapons possession, even as officials prepare for a victory parade scheduled for Thursday.
