Congress Slams Telegram Ban as Misguided NEET Fix

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit has branded the government’s decision to temporarily restrict Telegram as a total failure of policy. Rather than curbing the systemic irregularities plaguing the NEET examination process, Dikshit argues that targeting a single encrypted platform ignores the broader, more complex nature of digital security and misinformation.

In a pointed critique, Dikshit questioned the logic behind singling out Telegram when functionally similar services like WhatsApp remain untouched. He maintains that the government is merely applying a superficial patch to a deep-seated administrative crisis. By focusing on the medium rather than the mechanism of exam leaks, authorities are failing to address the fundamental vulnerabilities within the National Testing Agency.

The restriction, enacted under Section 69A of the IT Act, follows mounting pressure to prevent cheating during the NEET (UG) re-examinations. While the government claims these measures are necessary to secure the testing environment, critics view the move as an ineffective reaction that prioritizes censorship over genuine reform of the examination system.
