The crowd, hailing from the Indi constituency in Vijayapura, demanded that Patil be granted a seat in the ministry to ensure their district gains a stronger voice in governance. While the current cabinet, formed on June 3, holds 14 members, the state assembly allows for a total of 34 ministers, leaving significant room for maneuvering as aspirants like Saleem Ahmed and Abbayya Prasad also vie for spots.
Party leadership has attempted to soothe the rising unrest. Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala defended the legislators' ambitions, noting that wanting a role in the delivery of governance is a legitimate goal. Tensions recently spiked when Senior Minister Ramalinga Reddy briefly resigned over his portfolio assignment, though he eventually retracted the move after internal negotiations. With Shivakumar currently balancing critical departments like Finance and Personnel Administration, the pressure to expand the cabinet has become a central test for the state’s political stability.
