Kirti Azad Brands Rebel TMC Lawmakers as Traitors

Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad has publicly denounced 20 party rebels as traitors following their decision to merge with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India. Azad dismissed the breakaway faction’s new political alignment as a legally hollow maneuver, accusing the group of prioritizing personal ambition over party ideology.

The dispute centers on a formal letter submitted to the Lok Sabha Speaker, which Azad claims was designed to bypass anti-defection laws. He insisted that the TMC, under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, remains the only legitimate entity, labeling the merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India as an undemocratic charade. According to Azad, the new political vehicle holds no parliamentary standing or legal weight.

This confrontation marks a sharp escalation in West Bengal’s internal political stability. Azad contends that the dissenters were driven by the pursuit of ministerial positions rather than genuine policy grievances. By challenging the validity of the rebels' new affiliation, the TMC leadership is attempting to isolate the defectors and maintain control over its legislative bloc amidst the ongoing realignment.
