Jairam Ramesh Accuses Amit Shah of Orchestrating TMC Defections

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating the defection of 20 Trinamool Congress MPs to a fringe political entity. The move, allegedly designed to inflate the National Democratic Alliance’s strength in the Lok Sabha, has sparked a fresh political confrontation between the opposition and the ruling coalition.

Ramesh characterized the realignment as an illegal breakaway that undermines democratic norms and dishonors the legacy of Sardar Patel. He specifically targeted the merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India, warning that the inclusion of these defectors could destabilize the influence of core NDA partners like the Telugu Desam Party and Janata Dal (United).

Shantanu Dey, national organising secretary for the NCPI, described the rapid influx of new members as a surprise but welcomed the collaboration. Among those shifting their allegiance is TMC figure Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, whose move signals a deepening fracture within the Trinamool ranks as the ruling coalition seeks to consolidate its parliamentary numbers.
