Priyank Kharge Demands Legal Accountability from RSS at Centenary

As the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh marks a century of existence, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has challenged the organization to abandon its informal operational model. In an open letter, the Congress leader demanded public disclosure regarding the group’s financial records, internal governance, and its long-standing status as an unregistered entity.

The critique centers on the RSS’s expansive reach across India, specifically its network of over 60,000 shakhas. Citing data from the 2025-26 annual report of the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha, Kharge noted that Karnataka alone hosts 4,127 daily gatherings. He argued that an organization of this magnitude cannot maintain a footprint of such scale while operating outside the formal legal frameworks that govern other public-interest institutions.

Kharge urged the leadership to embrace constitutional compliance as they celebrate their milestone year. By calling for the disclosure of operational and financial details, the minister seeks to shift the discourse toward institutional accountability. His message insists that if the organization intends to influence the national fabric, it must transition into a fully registered entity subject to the same regulatory scrutiny as any other major organization in the country.
