Trinamool Congress Faces Internal Collapse as Lawmakers Defect

Twenty-three parliamentarians have abandoned the All India Trinamool Congress, triggering a political tremor that exposes fundamental fractures in the party’s ideological foundation. Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan warned on Monday that this mass exodus signals a failure of accountability, forcing the party to confront a deepening crisis of institutional loyalty.

The scale of the departure—comprising 20 Lok Sabha MPs and three Rajya Sabha members—has effectively hollowed out the party’s parliamentary presence. Ranjan argued that these defections suggest a shift in priorities, where personal political survival has eclipsed the collective goals of the organization. The instability has reached a breaking point following a rebellion spearheaded by MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.

By merging her faction with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India and pledging allegiance to the National Democratic Alliance, Dastidar has fundamentally altered the power balance in the chamber. This realignment leaves the remaining Trinamool leadership struggling to maintain cohesion as a significant portion of its legislative strength now operates under a rival banner.
