Trinamool Congress Fractures as 20 MPs Join NCPI and NDA Bloc

A significant realignment in Indian politics emerged today as 20 members of the All India Trinamool Congress announced a formal merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India. The move shifts these lawmakers into the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, signaling a major internal collapse for the West Bengal-based party.

The breakaway faction, led by figures including Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, has already petitioned Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to secure a separate seating arrangement in Parliament. Dastidar claims that more than two-thirds of the AITC’s parliamentary strength has effectively defected, pivoting toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s coalition to prioritize what they describe as a unified national agenda.

Shantanu Dey, the founder of the NCPI, noted that the news of the merger reached him through media channels rather than direct consultation. Despite the sudden nature of the shift, Dey expressed willingness to integrate the newcomers, reaffirming his party's alignment with the NDA. This development drastically alters the opposition’s leverage in the current legislative session, creating a new power dynamic within the Lok Sabha.
