Mayor Lori Blong confirmed the gravity of the situation as the city remains under a heavy law enforcement presence. Witnesses reported a chaotic scene, with Andrea Mendias, who works at a nearby body shop, describing the sound of at least 40 gunshots echoing through the area before police contained the suspect.Midland Memorial Hospital officials reported that four victims were rushed directly into surgery, while five others remain in stable condition. While the suspect was held in a prolonged standoff with authorities, Blong stated that officers successfully brought the immediate threat under control, though the investigation into the sequence of events continues.
