Fadnavis Dismisses Regional Merger Speculation as Political Fantasy

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday publicly swatted away rumors of regional parties merging into the Congress, framing the party as a sinking vessel incapable of anchoring new alliances. He insisted that regional leaders possess the political instinct to avoid such a move, despite recent suggestions to the contrary.

The Chief Minister targeted Sanjay Raut, who recently floated the idea that entities like the TMC, NCP, and SP should consider folding into the Congress. Responding via social media, Fadnavis dismissed Raut’s involvement as irrelevant, comparing his unsolicited advice to the antics of a wedding crasher with no stake in the proceedings.

Fadnavis argued that seasoned regional power brokers prioritize their own survival over joining a declining national force. He concluded that any attempt at such a consolidation would ultimately fail to threaten his own party, serving only to clear more political territory for his coalition to occupy in the shifting landscape of regional influence.
