Senegal Unveils Kolda Agro-Industrial Park to Bolster Food Processing

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye inaugurated the 15-hectare Kolda Agro-Industrial Park on April 24, 2026, marking a strategic pivot toward local processing of maize, mangoes, and cashews. The facility serves as a cornerstone for the Agropole-Sud project, aiming to integrate regional farming into competitive, value-added industrial chains.

The site represents a significant investment in Senegal’s National Agropole Development Programme, backed by 28.3 billion CFA francs—roughly $50.5 million—from the African Development Bank Group and the Islamic Development Bank. By establishing processing infrastructure directly within agricultural hubs, the government intends to curb post-harvest losses and transition farmers from raw producers to industrial suppliers. Minister of Industry and Trade Serigne Guèye Diop joined the President for the opening, emphasizing the park’s role in securing food sovereignty across the southern regions.

Beyond technical infrastructure, the initiative targets a massive expansion in labor participation. Projections suggest the project will catalyze 15,000 direct and 35,000 indirect jobs, specifically prioritizing youth and women in rural areas. During his visit, President Faye linked the park’s success to broader regional upgrades, including improved access to drinking water and enhanced connectivity. This facility, alongside similar efforts in Adéane, forms the structural backbone for the state’s long-term plan to modernize the agricultural sector and stabilize local economic growth.
