BJP and AIMIM Clash Over Telangana Voter Roll Revision

Drawing parallels to the controversial National Register of Citizens in Assam, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has challenged the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Telangana. The critique, which frames the administrative update as a potential tool for voter exclusion, has prompted a sharp rebuttal from BJP leadership.

BJP representative Prakash Reddy maintains that the revision process is strictly designed to integrate new voters who reached the age of maturity after 2002. He insists the government is committed to maintaining an accurate, inclusive registry that verifies credentials without disenfranchising legitimate citizens.

Owaisi, however, remains unconvinced by these administrative assurances. He cites the implementation of the NRC in Assam as a cautionary precedent, accusing Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of overseeing a biased system that relies on ethnic profiling. While Owaisi claims his public concerns are intended to inform rather than incite, his invocation of identity-based discrimination signals a deepening political rift over the transparency of the electoral process in Telangana.
