Binance Allocates $250,000 for Ebola Response in DRC and Uganda

With the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus spreading across international borders, Binance has pledged $250,000 to bolster containment efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. The funds are earmarked for frontline medical operations, where health authorities are struggling to manage transmission in the absence of an approved vaccine.

The capital will be divided equally between the Uganda Red Cross Society and Doctors Without Borders (MSF). These resources will secure essential sanitation supplies and personal protective equipment for healthcare workers, alongside funding for contact tracing and public awareness campaigns. The intervention aims to fortify local healthcare systems, particularly in eastern DRC, where insecurity and limited resources complicate emergency response.

Binance Co-CEO Richard Teng stated that the company intends to support organizations providing life-saving assistance during this critical window. Robert Kwesiga, Secretary General of the Uganda Red Cross Society, noted that such partnerships are vital for expanding outreach to high-risk communities. Meanwhile, MSF Emergency Programme Manager Trish Newport emphasized that the rapid rate of transmission remains a primary concern for field teams. This contribution marks an expansion of the company’s African outreach, moving beyond digital skills development into direct humanitarian aid.
