Moscow and E3 Envoys Clash Over Ukraine Stance

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin summoned the ambassadors of France, Germany, and Britain to Moscow this week, setting a cold stage for discussions on the ongoing war in Ukraine. The meeting underscored a deepening divide as the Kremlin officially condemned the trio for what it termed a destructive policy.

Galuzin accused the European powers of prolonging hostilities through their continued military and political support for Kyiv. This rhetoric aligns with the Russian government’s longstanding position that Western involvement acts as the primary obstacle to any potential resolution. In response, French Ambassador Nicolas de Riviere described the exchange as constructive, though he refrained from offering specific concessions or policy shifts, signaling that the diplomatic gap remains wide.

The meeting followed high-level talks in London, where European leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine’s security and pushed for an immediate ceasefire. While European representatives continue to advocate for a political settlement, Moscow remains skeptical of the European Union’s capacity to act as a neutral mediator. President Vladimir Putin maintains a rigid stance, expressing doubts about the bloc's intentions while keeping the door to dialogue partially open, provided the terms align with Russian strategic interests.
