Sukhdeo Bhagat, a prominent Congress figure, condemned the decision as a brutal assault on democratic process. He emphasized that Natarajan’s candidacy faced no legal obstacles, noting the complete absence of FIRs or pending criminal cases against her. The party delegation maintains that the disqualification was a calculated political maneuver designed to secure BJP dominance rather than a procedural necessity.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the party, characterized the Returning Officer's ruling as perverse. He argued that the dismissal flagrantly violates the Representation of the People Act by preemptively barring a candidate without official cognizance of any criminal matter. With the matter now before the Supreme Court, the Congress leadership is pushing for a judicial review to overturn what they describe as an illegal exclusion from the electoral contest.
