Internal Rebellion and CID Probe Tighten Grip on Trinamool Congress

While Mamata Banerjee held high-stakes talks with Sonia Gandhi in Delhi, a CID team descended on her Kolkata residence to investigate allegations of signature forgery. The timing transforms a routine political courtesy into a desperate defensive maneuver as the Trinamool Congress struggles to contain both legal threats and an internal revolt.

The party is currently fracturing from within, as a significant faction of MLAs openly defies Banerjee’s choice for Opposition Leader. These dissidents have signaled their intent to break away and form a separate bloc, exposing deep-seated resentment following the party's recent loss in the West Bengal assembly elections. The political vacuum left by the defeat has accelerated this factionalism, turning internal policy disputes into existential threats for the leadership.

Simultaneously, the legal pressure is mounting. A five-member Special Investigation Team, commanded by a Deputy Inspector General, is scrutinizing discrepancies found in the party's meeting resolution book. Abhishek Banerjee, the recently appointed general secretary, has surrendered initial documentation to the investigators. However, the probe into the forgery claims continues to cast a long shadow over the party's top brass, complicating their attempts to consolidate power against a backdrop of organized dissent.
