TMC Faces Potential Mass Defection to BJP-led NDA

Twenty Trinamool Congress Members of Parliament have reportedly signaled their intent to defect to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, threatening to upend the legislative balance in West Bengal. This potential migration marks a dramatic shift, as internal dissent within the TMC reaches a breaking point ahead of key parliamentary sessions.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury claims this realignment is the inevitable result of the TMC’s own political playbook. According to Chowdhury, the party spent years weakening the Congress by aggressively poaching local representatives and MLAs under the guise of state development. Now, the internal fractures within Mamata Banerjee’s ranks are forcing a reversal of that same strategy.

Rebel TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar stated that the group has already formally notified Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla of their intention to break away. While the BJP aims to capitalize on this discord to advance its own legislative agenda, the move carries significant weight for national politics, potentially altering the power dynamics between West Bengal’s ruling party and the central government.
