The State Department is preparing to launch this optional service to address significant processing bottlenecks. Current wait times for non-Visa Waiver Program citizens have stretched into months, a situation critics link to increased vetting requirements and administrative hurdles introduced in recent years. Applicants will still be required to pay the standard $185 visa fee regardless of whether they opt for the expedited upgrade.
While the specific diplomatic missions participating in the pilot have yet to be disclosed, officials suggest the list will be finalized before the program commences this summer. The initiative serves as a test case for demand-based scheduling, with the potential for extension beyond the end of the year. Participation in the premium service provides no advantage in the actual adjudication process, as the standard vetting standards remain in full effect for every applicant.
