INDIA Bloc Challenges Modi Government Over Economic and Electoral Reform

Gathering in New Delhi, the 23-party INDIA opposition alliance has formally demanded an all-party summit to confront mounting economic instability. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge spearheaded the push, citing an urgent need to address runaway inflation, stagnant unemployment rates, and allegations of systemic manipulation within the national electoral process.

The coalition’s agenda extends beyond economic policy, targeting the integrity of the country’s democratic institutions. Leaders have resolved to petition the Chief Justice of India, raising specific alarms regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Beyond these structural concerns, the bloc is intensifying political pressure on the cabinet, calling for the immediate resignation of the Union Education Minister following allegations of widespread administrative mismanagement that has left students in limbo.

Kharge signaled a shift toward a more disciplined, regularized strategy for the alliance. By scheduling their next major summit for August in Hyderabad, the coalition aims to solidify its unity and leverage collective parliamentary strength against the Narendra Modi-led administration. This unified front seeks to replicate recent legislative successes by maintaining a consistent, coordinated opposition across both houses of Parliament.
