Trinamool Congress Faces Split as Rebel Faction Demands New Seating

A faction of 20 rebel Trinamool Congress MPs has formally requested separate seating in the Lok Sabha, signaling a major internal fracture within the party. Led by veteran lawmaker Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, the group cites systemic mismanagement, rising unemployment, and a breakdown of law and order in West Bengal as their primary grievances.

Ghosh Dastidar, a political veteran with four decades of experience, framed the move as a stand against the current administration's failures. She emphasized that her decision stems from a professional disconnect with Mamata Banerjee that deepened after she resigned from her district chairperson role following the latest election. By securing the support of 20 out of the party's 28 total seats, the breakaway group remains within the legal thresholds of the anti-defection law, creating a direct challenge to the party's hold on its legislative delegation.

Dismissing accusations of political opportunism, the faction claims its focus has shifted toward national security and collaborative development. They intend to work alongside both Central and State authorities to address the state's economic stagnation. This legislative maneuver follows a string of recent defeats for the TMC against the BJP, leaving the party leadership in a precarious position as it struggles to maintain cohesion amidst open dissent.
