Tehran Accuses Washington of Complicity in Regional Escalation

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has accused the United States of enabling Israeli military actions in Lebanon, warning that the current diplomatic climate is defined by profound distrust. Tehran maintains that Washington shares responsibility for the collapse of ceasefire efforts and the resulting regional instability.

Baghaei specifically pointed to the April 8 ceasefire agreement, alleging that U.S. support for Israeli operations has effectively undermined the accord. According to the spokesperson, Iran continues to exchange indirect communications with Washington, yet these channels are currently strained by what Tehran views as a clear failure of U.S. oversight regarding its regional ally. These developments have prompted concerns that a wider conflict is becoming increasingly likely.

Simultaneously, Tehran is navigating a complex diplomatic landscape that includes indirect negotiations involving Pakistani officials. Beyond the military friction, tensions have spilled over into nuclear oversight. Baghaei directed sharp criticism at Rafael Grossi, the chief of the U.N. nuclear watchdog, accusing him of institutional bias. He warned that any unfavorable resolutions emerging from the watchdog’s upcoming meeting would trigger a swift retaliatory response from Iran.
