BJP Targets INDIA Bloc Over Internal Frictions and Strategy

The INDIA alliance convened in New Delhi this week under a cloud of internal discord, as BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla dismissed the coalition as a theoretical construct plagued by persistent infighting. The gathering faced immediate scrutiny over the non-participation of key partners and simmering disputes regarding seat-sharing arrangements.

While Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge framed the meeting as a unified front against the ruling government’s economic and legislative agenda, the guest list told a different story. The absence of DMK leadership underscored a deepening rift with Congress over regional influence in Tamil Nadu, while the NCP’s wavering participation added to the perception of a fragile coalition. These tensions were further complicated by a public spat between the JMM and Congress concerning a contested Rajya Sabha nomination.

Prominent figures including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Mamata Banerjee were present to project strength, with Uddhav Thackeray joining via video link. Despite the high-profile attendance, the lack of total alignment continues to provide political ammunition for the BJP, which maintains that the opposition’s inability to resolve internal power struggles renders their collective platform ineffective.
